TOUR REVIEWS
READ MORE REVIEWS”Ol Malo is a magical place run by an amazing team that makes you feel like a part of the family. We only stayed 3 days but they were filled with adventure and fun and we only wish we stayed longer. We enjoyed game drives and walks, watching elephants and zebras from our room, riding horses and camels, a safari breakfast, and a night/dinner at the tree house. The food was delicious and the staff were kind and helpful. We did not plan to do the helicopter ride to Lake Turkana but are SO happy it worked out - it is a bit of a splurge but it was the most amazing day ever! Ol Malo was our first safari lodge during our 2 week stay in Kenya, and we cannot imagine a better start to our trip. We especially appreciate how thoughtful Annie was as a host, checking on what activities we might want engage in each day and working with us to make our time there extremely special (including extra horseback riding for our horse loving daughter and dinner in our room the day we arrived). We hope to return as we enjoyed it SO much. Definitely on the top of our recommendations to friends!

HOW WE CARE FOR OUR HORSES
Our horseback adventures are hand-picked for their quality and care of their horses. Here’s how the horses at Ol Malo are kept in tip-top shape for your safaris. Our horses are on top of the hierarchy and receive very special care:
- There are around 30 horses at Ol Malo, all personally trained by Chyulu. Many of them are homebred or rescued horses, all stared with Parelli Natural Horsemanship before being ridden for 2 years before taking guests
- Care is taken to match horse and rider
- The horses have a schedule with dedicated rest days as well as schooling to keep them fit and responsive while out on trail
- The horses are fed breakfast and supper, with as much grazing during the day as possible
- During the day, they are free to roam on 2000 acres as a herd
- In the evenings they stabled or in pens to keep them safe from predators
- The majority are barefoot, with only the “weight carriers” being shod or using hoof boots while on mobile safaris
Please let us know if you have any more questions about this.
